The oil and gas industry is currently booming across the US and around the world. This worldwide boom has transformed some communities completely, and continues to grow on a monthly basis.
In the recruiting world, we speak with people from across the US and the world on a daily basis, and we hear about the jobs/economies/regional growth all the time. Currently in the US, North Dakota, Midland/Odessa, TX, Anchorage, AK, Tulsa, OK and Houston, TX are the hotbeds for this industry.
Entry-level jobs that were paying $6.00 per hour a few years ago are now paying $22.00 per hour in North Dakota and Midland, TX. Workers in those regions can’t find hotels or apartments to live in, and it seems there aren’t enough restaurants, either.
On a local note, here in The Woodlands I have seen neighborhood home prices jump 30-38% over the last two years --mainly based on the boom of the oil and gas market and also the decision of oil and gas giant ExxonMobil to build their world headquarters just south of The Woodlands.
The oil and gas industry is usually on a cyclical path where it will boom, then slow down over a 5-7 year period. Things have been booming for about 3 years now, and everyone we speak with can’t tell us when they think it will slow down.
Hopefully, this boom continues for another 10-20 years and continues to grow.
